What Are The Best Colors To Use On A Website?
Although content is very important to a website, color plays a vital role in attracting, engaging and converting visitors into customers. Why? Because color is emotional. A study by Colorcom found that it takes just 90 seconds for people to judge a product subconsciously, and 62% to 90% of that assessment is based on color alone.
People also have certain expectations about color and with whom they’re associated. A quick example is the medical profession which is most often associated with light colors accented by blues and greens.
Good color choices depend on:
- the “personality” you want your brand to have
- sophisticated
- whimsical
- rugged
- sincere
- competent
- knowing who your targeted audience is and what colors most appeal to them e.g.,
- shoppers on a budget find navy blue and teal hues appealing
- impulse buyers like red, orange and black
- traditional purchasers are drawn to lighter pinks and blues
- 57% of men and 35% of women prefer blue – which is also considered the “safest” color
- basic understanding of color theory and effective use of the Color Wheel (Fun fact: It was originally created by Sir. Isaac Newton in 1666.)
- the types of behaviors you want to solicit e.g.,
- purple is associated with creativity and imagination
- black and white establish a sense of balance and calm
